Privacy Policy

The short version

hobsonjobson.com does not collect, store, or sell your personal data. We do not require you to create an account. We do not run advertising.

What we collect

Nothing you give us directly. There are no sign-up forms, comment sections, or contact forms on this site.

Standard server logs. Like all websites, our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically records basic request data — IP address, browser type, page requested, time of request. These logs are used solely for security and performance purposes and are not linked to any individual. Netlify's privacy policy applies: netlify.com/privacy.

Search queries. When you use the search bar, your query is processed on our server to return results. It is not stored or logged.

Third-party services

The Guardian API. The “Spotted in the Wild” feature fetches publicly available article data from The Guardian. No personal data is sent to The Guardian in this request.

Anthropic. On days when no news article is found for the word of the day, we generate a short contextual note using the Anthropic Claude API. No personal data is included in these requests.

Google Fonts. We load typefaces (IM Fell English, EB Garamond) via Google Fonts, which may log your IP address per Google's privacy policy.

Cookies

We do not set any tracking or analytics cookies. The site may set a minimal session cookie for technical reasons (e.g. Next.js hydration); it contains no personal information and expires when you close your browser.

Children

This site is a reference dictionary. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If we add features that change how data is handled (e.g. user accounts, analytics), we will update this page and note the new effective date.
